Concentrate. Reach. Stack the shoulders. Paddle vertical. Reach. Concentrate. What can’t I gain on this guy? Ok, pull hard, concentrate. I’m loving this.
As a trail of snot dangled from my nose and I looked ahead for my nearest competitor, I came to the realization that I had really missed this. Not Stand Up Paddleboarding in particular – I’ve only been doing it seriously for three weeks – but, rather, the inner discipline it was requiring of me to keep pushing.
I was only ten kilometres into the Quiksilver Waterman Collection Easy Rider SUP Cup and everything was starting to hurt. But I hadn’t been so excited about suffering since my days as a cross-country ski racer in high school, or as a XC mountain bike racer.
